With the amalgamation of parts of the Township of Crowland and the City of Welland, Eastdale opened its doors in September 1961 under the Welland Board of Education. Eastdale had an enrollment of 490 students, consisting of grades 9 and 10. Eastdale also had a cafeteria and a double gymnasium. In the second year, grade 11 was added. In 1963, the first structural addition to Eastdale was when a technical area was added. Grade 12 Academic and grade 12 Technical courses were added. A unique aspect of the technical wing was its sheet metal and welding area, the only one of its kind in the Niagara South. Nine classes were added to Eastdale including one laboratory. Shops were renovated to be 5 plus 2 diversified occupations. In 1964, there were an additional 200 pupils, and grade 12 Commercial and Special Commercial as well as grade 13 classes. Eastdale had its first graduation in November 1964. A second wing was added in 1968 providing the school with a library and music room. By 1969, the student population had grown to 869 and Eastdale graduates were beginning to make their mark in the world.
Former Principal, Ed Stavnitzky described Eastdale as “a place that has a strong tradition in the community. “Eastdale is a place where great things happen”.
